Across the Various Voices weekend, there will be many exciting opportunities to learn all about singing skills and how to use your voice through our programme of workshops covering a variety of stimulating topics and activities. From the daily massed singing warm–ups in the Clore Ballroom at Royal Festival Hall to public workshops in the Front Room to our choral masterclasses led by some of Britain?s leading conductors, these unique workshops will be accessible to our visiting choirs and public alike.
We have 4 main themes.
Developing your voice
Covering vocal and choral skills, workshops include Healthy Voice 1 & 2 looking at singing skills and advanced vocal techniques and Singing Together ? what is a good choral sound and how to achieve it.
Exploring musical styles
Developing diversity in song choices enabling singers to become more vocally versatile these Tea–Time workshops will be free for public and visiting singers alike.
The whole performer
Mental and physical aspects of singing, using the body, dance, breathing and posture. Workshops including Singing and Performance Anxiety and The Art of the Audition will focus on such issues as well as our daily Wake up Warm–up at 10am on the Clore Ballroom floor.
Leading your group
For choral directors and other leaders within the movement, including those involved with administration, marketing, programming and fundraising. A wide range of workshops from Arranging Music for your Choir, Choral Conducting, to Running your choir and Queer Studies: How can music be gay?
Taster workshops include: Bulgarian Singing — come and sample the sound–world of Bulgarian singing; Falsetto — what is it and how to do it?; Choralgraphy — how to add choreography to your choral performance; Improvisation – just do it — how improvisation can add to your performance.
Workshop leaders include lecturers from the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music, leading British composers, professional singers and educators and many more represented by our visiting musical directors – a veritable treasure trove of musical experience from around the world.

Wake-up Warm-up

A massed singing warm-up happening every morning looking at posture, breathing, relaxation and many other exercises. An exchange of warm-up techniques to charge yourselves up for the day ahead.

Three Choral Masterclasses
